ROLE SUMMARY
The Operations Accountant is responsible for the review & oversight of inventory practices within our Distribution Service Center (DSC) to ensure compliance to company policies, Nikon guidelines and J-Sox requirements. A key element of the role is to accurately report costs to mitigate impacts to cost of goods sold and overheads at a group level.
To take responsibility for key month-end activities including, but not limited to, calculation of group inventory provision, narrative to support P&L movements, overhead reporting, trend analysis and preparation of key reports to Nikon.
The job holder will also play a key role in the annual budget setting process dealing with overheads, headcount, CAPEX and aspects of other cost of goods sold.
As part of the Global Finance Team supporting our manufacturing and service centres the Operations Accountant will be required be highly motivated and engaged participating in projects, leading where applicable and involved in group initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Month-End Close: Perform general ledger accounting, including preparing journal entries, and performing various account reconciliations.
• Ensure adequacy and timeliness of accrued charges and other period-end adjustments.
• Ensure inventory movements are recorded in an accurate and timely manner.
• To prepare cost of goods sold across a number of accounts.
• Work closely with Manufacturing Director to provide finance support and assistance.
• Work with Inventory Planning Manager to support and improve inventory management processes.
• Report and assist in the responses required to Nikon on Scrap, Provision, and Freight analysis.
• To co-ordinate the development of the DSC overheads and CAPEX budget.
• Key involvement in the cycle count process providing oversight and assurance.
• Key role in ensuring compliance to quarterly inventory counts for 3rd parties.
• Ensure judgement areas are raised as part of the inventory provision process.
• Take an active role in process improvements related to COGS whilst developing a strong understanding of trends.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Part qualified / newly qualified accountant.
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 5+ years experience working with inventory and COGS accounting.
• Strong manufacturing accounting knowledge.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, comfortable with pivot tables and lookups.
• Ability to manipulate and work with large amounts of data.
• Excellent communication skills to build strong relations cross-functionally.
• Experience with GP/Dynamics is preferred but not required.
